This 1940 Packard Super Eight 180 7-Passenger Touring Sedan rides on a 148″ wheelbase and is powered by Packard’s “New-for-1940” 356 cubic-inch Super 8 engine with 9 main bearings and 160 horsepower. It was the most powerful American 8-cylinder engine made in 1940.
Purchased new on October 21, 1939 from Earle C. Anthony Packard in Los Angeles, it was ordered by the General Manager of the Coca Cola Bottling Company in Bakersfield and registered to the company. Intended for use as a car to transport up to 7 visitors and executives to the plant, and as a personal car for the Manager, it was used in that capacity for several years until the Manager’s passing. His family kept the car and it continued to be registered to the company until the early 1970’s, although used in a very limited capacity.
