1942 Harley Davidson Military U Early 1942 Harley Davidson Military U. The bike is in good running and riding condition. It was originally built for South Africa during WWII, as evidenced by the South African Stamp on the right engine case. However, this bike also has a U.S. Navy stamp on the left engine case indicating that it was used by the U.S. during the war. This is a real wartime use bike. Theory has it that 25 1942 U’s never made it to South Africa during the war; they were reverse lent leased to U.S. forces in foreign ports. After the war they were most likely reclaimed by South Africa. The bike has spent most of its life in South Africa, it was brought to the U.S. several years ago. This bike is completely original except for the saddle bags and foot board rubbers. It did not originally have mirrors, but they are currently installed because of U.S. safety law.
