Very Rare 1958 Chevrolet Delray 2 door Delivery Sedan
What you are looking at is not just a Station Wagon.

In fact it is a very rare 1958 Chevrolet Delray SDL – Sedan Delivery with glass.

They were only available through COPO orders (Central Order Processing Office) and issued exclusively for government or some commercial applications. In 1958 Chevrolet did not separate production figures for the Sedan Delivery, as while it was cataloged within the truck line, production seems to have been added with the Delray series Station Wagon line.

Hence there are no exact numbers available, though it is estimated that only 500 Sedan Deliveries were made in 1958.

This particular automobile was special ordered by the GSA (Government Services Administration) in the configuration you see here. Delray Sedan Delivery with side- and quarter-glass. It served as a maintenance vehicle for the US Air Force at Luke AFB in Glendale AZ. One of the unique features is the one-piece-tailgate and these wagons came without a backseat from the factory.

Originally the car was delivered in a lively Grey-Color inside and out, with an Inline-Six and 3 speed manual transmission.

The Chevy as you see it here today, remains to be a very rare and unique configuration.

However it has been improved and upgraded to excellent driving condition and a more elegant paint-job.

It is a straight rust-free body that always resided in Arizona.

The maroon and grey two-tone-paint is over 10 years old and not show-quality, but very presentable.

A rooftop antenna remains as a testimony to the Delray’s Air-Force duty.

The rear cargo area floor was exchanged for an authentic folding-rear-seat from a 58 Chevrolet Yeoman Wagon.

Consequently we now have a full 6-seater automobile.

The interior has some beautiful woodwork done throughout, complementing the grey vinyl seats, especially the headliner is always the topic of conversation.

Please look at all the pictures and enjoy. You will be hard pressed to find anything quite like it.

In addition a modern Vintage Air unit was installed to keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Works excellent.

All body and door weather-stripping has been replaced.

Over the last 2 years the car had a complete mechanical make-over.

The engine is now a completely rebuilt GM 283cui V8 with Holley carburetion and GM electronic ignition,

coupled to a rebuilt O.D.700R4 automatic transmission.

Re-cored original Harrison radiator with separate transmission oil cooler.

Borgeson power steering conversion and power disc brakes in front.

Front & rear suspension has been completely rebuilt with all new quality components, new springs and new bushings.

This car runs, drives and stops just as good as any newer vehicle. It performs great and floats down the road like a dream.

It has taken several extended road-trips throughout the Southwest, including but not limited to Hwy 1 and Route 66, without any issues whatsoever.

If you are looking for something beautiful, usable, unique, reliable, and always a conversation piece – this is without a doubt the car you want. The smiles per mile ratio is endless and encouraging.
