1962 Corvette Convertible – Original 327 V8 4-speed off road exhaust Barn Find!
Model year 1962 would prove to be a pivotal year for the Corvette. It would be the final year for the “live-axle” rear end giving way to the independent suspension introduced the following year on the 1963 Sting Ray, as well as the last of the Corvettes to offer a rear trunk area. Conversely, it would be the first year to offer the 327 CI engine that replaced the 283 CI engine of its predecessor 1961 Corvette. The larger displacement of the new 327 CI V-8 engine proved to be significant and provided an additional HP over its 283 CI V-8 counterpart. Model year 1962 would also be the first year to delete the option for a “two-tone” body-color choice. From this point forward, all Corvettes were exclusively monochromatic and featured a first-time rocker-panel trim piece. Offered from a collector who has owned this car twice in the past 60 years, this first-generation Corvette is one that is sure to be cherished by Corvette enthusiasts of all walks.
One of only 2,934 Corvettes factory optioned with the legendary 327 V-8 engine and off-road exhaust in model year 1962, this car is a premium specimen of a documented matching numbers first-generation Corvette that retains a vast majority of its original paint, interior, chrome and stainless trim. Shipped new to Malcom Konner Chevrolet Inc, Paramus, NJ, this Corvette has been in stored away in a barn since 1980. Properly maintained this C1 runs and drives beautifully. There is a saying that ” they’re only original once ” and to find a prime example of that in a C1 is extremely rare!
