The flames consuming the front of this 1963 Chevrolet Bel Air Wagon give it the look of a custom V8 hot rod. But when you see the overdrive transmission, three-row seating, and cold-blowing A/C, you start to realize that this custom is really all about being an easy and practical cruiser.

These Bel Air wagons were more expensive than an Impala drop-top when new, and so it certainly deserves some custom flair. We all instantly gravitate to the custom flames that look like they are engulfing the full front end. And the blue pinstripes not only accentuate the red-hot blaze tips, but they also set up the color theme for the custom pinstriping on the D-pillars and tailgate. They even added spinners to the upgraded polished alloys for an extra dose of attitude. But while this has a speedy/custom style, don’t forget to recognize the quality in this build, too. The black paint has a glossy finish that helps to highlight the well-fitting panels of this full-sized body. Bright chrome bumpers, stylish side trim, good weather-stripping, and doors that close with confidence are all part of this well-done package. It makes for an overall impression of a very cool classic that also never loses the road-ready appeal that lets wagons earn the term “grocery-getter.”

More of that custom and useful style is seen inside. It starts with the full bright red treatment that is pure custom cool. The seats, carpet, dash, doors, and headliner all have a nice vibrant color. It has plenty of custom cruiser attitude with the glossy steering wheel, custom gear shift, and the exterior pinstriping continued on the dash. Not only is all this comfortable, but the trim tag tells us this was born a three-row, nine-person wagon. So that rear-facing seat is great for showing off at the car show or folding down for extra tailgating cargo. And no matter if you like this for its flair or practicality, you’ll also appreciate nice upgrades like a Sony AM/FM stereo with cassette, tinted windows, and cold-bowing air conditioning. Plus, the crisp set of full TPI Tech readouts has a road trip ready feel.

The engine bay has a clean style and some added polish from the valve covers and air grabber. We like that they kept the classic style with an era-correct displacement on the 283 cubic-inch V8. But they made sure it now has the right amount of pep with a four-barrel carburetor and an Edelbrock aluminum intake. There are even nice supporting components, like an aluminum radiator, an HEI distributor, and an Optima battery. It’s built to be a fun cruiser for trips near or far, and the 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission has a smooth operation and highway-friendly overdrive. There’s also power steering, power brakes, and drilled & slotted front discs.

Complete with owner’s manual, this is the flame-kissed and air-conditioned custom made from a three-row grocery-getter that was made to hit the road. Oh yes, this one is just as cool as it sounds. Call today!
