It’s hard not to stare at this beautiful 1963 Pontiac Grand Prix. With its show quality paint, gorgeous white interior, and tri-power 4-speed drivetrain it has a lot of obvious appeal. It gets even better when you see the 8-lug wheels, hear the throaty exhaust, and feel the cold factory air conditioning. This one combines a great deal of restoration work with a host of factory features and a few select upgrades, all coming together perfectly in a classic Pontiac design.

Introduced in 1962, the Grand Prix was updated for 1963 along with the other Pontiac B-bodies. It looked like a new model with its stacked headlights, smoothed sheetmetal, and crisp roofline. This example’s PHS documents show a build date of 3-28-63 with delivery to Phillips Motor Company of Norman, OK. Originally Nocturne Blue, this car received a fantastic repaint in Marimba Red. The body and frame are straight and rust free, while the trunk floor was repaired during the restoration. The car was also fitted with 8-lug wheels that wear American Classic white stripe radial tires from 2015. Note the remote fender mounted mirror as well.

While the fender badges might call out a 421, in fact this Pontiac has its numbers-matching 389ci 4v engine. It has been rebuilt and upgraded with a tri-power intake and Rochester carburetors along with chrome valve covers and air cleaners. It starts easily and has a strong sound through the dual exhaust. The transmission has been swapped in favor of a Borg Warner T10 4-speed which is a great companion to the 3×2 engine. There are loads of new parts throughout and everything is in proper mechanical condition. Factory options include power steering and power brakes for a smooth driving experience.

The interior has been redone in white and looks stunning against the exterior. The front bucket seats flank a center console with a storage compartment and shifter, while the rear bench seat features a folding center armrest. The carpet, door panels, and headliner are all in excellent condition too. Up front is a stylish dashboard with a woodgrain insert and passenger grab handle. This car is equipped with cold factory air conditioning that has been updated to R134a refrigerant along with an STV eliminator. There is also a factory tilt column with a wood steering wheel replacing the old Lucite piece. The lights, horn, wipers, parking brake, and backup lights all function properly. So do all the gauges and indicators. The factory radio remains in place while audio is now provided by a digital unit in the glove box. A full set of rubber floor mats is also included.

This really is a nice Pontiac. It looks great inside and out, top and bottom (be sure to see the underside photos). It has some great features including 8-lug wheels and air conditioning, and will always draw a crowd when you pop the hood to show off the tri-power induction setup. But maybe best of all is the enjoyment of running through the 4-speed with that muscle car sound as you relive Pontiac’s glory days.
