1968 Chrysler 300 Convertible Blue RWD Automatic
This 1968 Chrysler 300 convertible is one of 2,161 built and has been owned by the seller for 2 years. It’s a California car and wears one repaint in its original factory color, an all original interior except for carpet, and a aftermarket convertible top. No cracks, rips or tears.

Though produced in greater numbers than the “Letter-series” 300s last built in 1965, these later cars aren’t common today and their 440 cubic inch V8s continued the big-car performance tradition of the breed.

Styling for 1968 reflects the early Engel era of Chrysler design, and the hidden highlights on this 300 were new for the year. The knife-edged fenders were Engel hallmarks and the concave body sides were part of a 1967 refresh of the basic 1965 design. In all, it’s a bold look that’s aged well, and the grille still carries a reminder of the traditional 300 crossbars. The seller reports that all rust has been repaired with metal and that no corners were cut in the process. The front and rear bumpers have been rechromed and the grille has been restored. With the new “fuselage” styled Chryslers on tap for 1969, this car represents the last of its kind.

Clean, simple lines distinguish the interior, which has new front bucket seats and new rear seat upholstery. The door panels have been redone as has the carpeting. The trunk interior has been redone as well and sports a custom cover for the spare. A factory AM/FM radio looks good in the dash and is a welcome period option. The seller says the functionality of the factory A/C is unknown as it has never been used, but it’s a good feature to have and uncommon in a late 1960s convertible. The A/C compressor and lines are still present, indicating the system likely is intact.

These cars rode on a 124-inch wheelbase and weighed just over 4,000 pounds, so the 440 in the engine bay was welcome. Chrysler’s famed torsion bars handled front-suspension duties while leaf springs were deployed in back.

Under the hood the 440 V8 was standard and came in 350 and 375 horsepower flavors, the higher horsepower version part of the TNT performance package. The air cleaner is original to the car. The car has a rebuilt carburetor, rebuilt TorqueFlite automatic, and rebuilt power steering pump. The fuel system has been restored and the fuel pump replaced. The car also has a new water pump, new battery, and five new tires.
