1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Tribute
The 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle is really the essence of the muscle car generation, distilled into a single car. With a muscular, tough design and numerous potent GM V8 engine options, it is no surprise that even more than 50 years after its debut, the Chevelle reigns supreme as one of the most sought after of all the muscle cars. Although not every Chevelle came with a massive engine, the lesser engined examples are a perfect canvas to build something truly remarkable that would have absolutely obliterated even the fastest street machine in period.
This 1970 Chevelle is an SS Tribute that was built far beyond the specifications of anything that would have been available when the car was new. Finished in beautiful Cortez Silver with twin black stripes, the car’s exterior is wonderfully subtle, yet alludes to what lays beneath the cowl induction hood. Built by Doug’s Classic Restorations in Olympia, WA, this car was completed to a very high standard and finished just a few months ago in January of 2025. Sitting on a set of 15-inch polished American Racing Torq-Thrust wheels, the car looks period correct at first glance, but then you begin to notice some of the things that have been upgraded. Behind those wheels sit a set of 4-wheel Wilwood disc brakes, and a 3-inch dual-exit exhaust means that everyone at your local cruise night will hear you coming.
The black vinyl interior features bucket seats up front with a console, and in the rear is a bench to fit three more passengers. SS gauges have been installed, as has a Hurst shifter, that rises out of the center console. What you can’t see is a Vintage Air A/C system that helps keep the interior nice and cool during the summer, and a Custom Autosound headunit with Bluetooth capabilities, and Pioneer speakers.
Under the hood is where things get especially exciting. A 454 cubic inch V8 has been fully built to produce a dyno verified 533 horsepower and 581 lb-ft of torque, making this car exceptionally fun to drive. The build of this engine includes the installation of aluminum cylinder heads, an Edelbrock intake, which is topped with a Holley double pumper carburetor and HEI electronic ignition to keep it running smoothly. Power is then sent via a 5-speed Tremec manual gearbox to the rear wheels. A serpentine belt system and aluminum radiator with electric fans keep the car reliable, while a fully powder coated frame ensures that rust will not become an issue. The suspension has also been addressed with an oversized sway bar and tubular upper and lower control arms.
If you have always wanted a classic muscle car but were looking for a more performance oriented package, this 1970 Chevelle SS Tribute is the car you have been waiting for. With its massive powerplant and host of supporting upgrades, all of the hard work has already been completed and now it’s time for you to get behind the wheel and start enjoying the drive.
