Today, we have the honor of presenting a true time capsule, authentic day two-style, survivor. We understand this ’69 Camaro isn’t a survivor in the sense that it wears original paint and has low miles; we mean it in the sense that this wicked street machine, magazine car was built around 1980, and has remained unchanged for 42 years. This piece of muscle car history hearkens back to a day when wild paint, L88 hoods, L60 tires, and 4-speeds ruled the streets. The best part is this Camaro could back up the Show with the Go; photos of the car at U.S. 30 Drag Strip and its respectable timeslips serve as supporting artifacts from days bygone.
This ’69 Camaro would be an incredible addition to a musclecar collection, either as a weekend cruiser, or piece of art authentically representing an era perfectly. It’d also be a terrific choice for the Muscle Car & Corvette Nationals show in Chicago each November…I know it’d attract gobs of attention.
Our understanding is this car was purchased by two brothers in Illinois right around 1978 and served as their high school transportation. Sometime between its purchase, and the 1982 Car Craft Street Machine Nationals, the car was transformed into the real life Hot Wheels, and magazine pinup car you see today. Its authenticity isn’t questioned, as 40 year old photos and magazine photos show the car in its current paint scheme, still wearing its same Keystone Klassic wheels (notice the original SEMA stickers are still on the inside of the wheels) and Big Boss L60 tires.
After completion, this ’69 was a total hit at the ’82 Car Craft Street Machine Nationals. An original license plate frame and other memorabilia from the show are included with the car. Between magazine and book shoots, the ’69 was exercised a bit at U.S. 30 Drag Strip, with respectable 13.2 times. 108 mph speeds on the slip photos let us know this car had difficulty hooking up, and would likely shave another second off its time with proper traction. This ’69 Camaro was every young man’s dream car in the early ’80s, so of course it spent time cruising in the Chicagoland area…maybe you remember seeing it?
As is the case so many times, life responsibilities took over, and soon the ’69 was parked in the garage for extended times. The Camaro wasn’t always hibernating, though, and still saw occasional parade duty, or short cruises reliving memories of Crazy Train cranked on the stereo. However, as the years went on, priorities took over, and the Camaro was driven less and less. Impressively, though, the car was never altered over the years, and now serves as a step back in time to what a Day 2 car looked like 40 years ago.
So, what exactly has been done to this ’69 Camaro?
Back in a time when these were still just used cars, this ’69 started life as a true X11 car built at the Norwood plant. The owner had a nice solid vehicle to work with, as shown in the videos and photos. Note the nice condition of the subframe and floors, all of which appear original. The trunk floor also appears to be original, as the photos and videos show. Body work is unknown, but as an Illinois car, it likely has had some replacement panels or rust repair performed. Overall, the car shows as an unrestored original, with trim, chrome, and glass showing wear appropriate for a 53 year old car. We noticed both doors sag a bit, and could use hinges at some point…again, depending on the next owner intends to use the car.
As the Camaro’s transformation took place, the following modifications were made:
fiberglass front clip and lift-off L88 hood installed400 small block engineMuncie M21 close ratio 4-speed transmission with 2.52:1 first gear10 bolt POSI rear axle with 4.11:1 gears
The engine decodes as a CKP block from a ’72 Caprice, the 3846429-cased transmission is a ’63-’65 M21, and the axle is a GYG Posi unit from 1971-1974. Photos of all of these codes are included below.
Engine & mechanical work:

A working vintage gauge cluster sits on the cowl. Inside, note the circa ’73 Trans Am front bucket seats. All of the velour inserts on the seats are removable, and it appears the other pieces of velour on the dash and door panels and just held in place with tension and factory screws.
This car does have power steering, but manual 4 wheel drum brakes.
How Does It Run?
It starts and runs, and idles VERY well, as seen in the videos. We received this Camaro after our Wisconsin roads already were salted, so we were only able to drive the car in our parking lot. It always starts right up and seems to shift through the gears smoothly, too. Because of age, we’d recommend a tune-up and safety inspection before any sort of regular driving occurs. Because of this car’s history, we chose to leave it in its current state, but we’re not sure how the next owner will choose to use it. The car leaks just a slight bit of oil, leaving just about a quarter-sized spot after a month or so, as shown in the photos. No other leaks are significant enough to leave a drop on the concrete.
We could ramble on, but you are encouraged to watch the videos and look at the photos of this piece of Camaro muscle car history. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have that I can answer. My name is Jeff and I can be reached at 608-401-1113. This is an investment-grade, museum quality ’69 Camaro that will attract tons of attention. I’m excited to meet the new caretaker of this piece of Chevrolet history.
Please note that this vehicle has a clear Wisconsin title, the original Illinois title you see in the photos was graciously returned by the Wisconsin DMV after processing. This transaction will be conducted through my business, Buy Gone LLC, a Wisconsin licensed auction house. Sales tax on the actual sale amount will be required to be paid by WISCONSIN buyers, with out of state buyers receiving a bill of sale for the actual sales price and responsible for paying their state sales tax.
Please watch the videos and look at the photos for any additional information you need on this 1969 Camaro. I go to great lengths to show every inch of my vehicles for sale, and include videos of them running and driving.
Sale Terms and Conditions
Please let the 400+ photos and 50+ minutes of high definition video of this beautiful ’69 Camaro make you comfortable with a purchase. However, don’t hesitate to call me with a specific question. Please remember that your purchase is a COMMITMENT TO BUY this car. Because opinions of vintage cars and trucks can vary, please have the car inspected or inspect the car in person PRIOR to purchase. Any inspection fees are the responsibility of the bidder. I cannot stress enough that I am asking bidders to follow through on their commitment if you purchase.
A $500 non-refundable deposit and communication from the buyer is due immediately at purchase. The balance is due in full within 7 days of the auction’s end, paid via cashier’s check (must be verified), bank wire transfer, or cash in person. Cashier’s checks must be received prior to pickup, with 5 business needed after deposit for funds to clear. Cash or cleared wire transfer will allow the car to be released the same day.
Because of its age and mileage, this vehicle is sold strictly as-is-as shown, with no warranties expressed or implied. If you haven’t owned a classic car, please remember that this isn’t a 2020 Toyota Highlander. Older vehicles, even those with low miles, require an increased level of maintenance and attention.
When you place a bid on a vehicle, you are entering into a legal and binding contract to purchase the vehicle. This arrangement is outlined in the eBay User Agreement. We also reserve the right to cancel bids at our discretion.
We will not be liable for any cancellation of this auction for any reason. As stated above, shipping charges are buyer’s responsibility. We will assist a buyer with shipping the vehicle anywhere in the United States from zip code 53560, but will not be responsible in any way for claims arising from shipping damage. We assume no responsibility for damages incurred after the vehicle leaves our possession. We are not affiliated with any shipping carrier. Any claims or other communication regarding shipment of vehicles will be between you and the shipper, not with the seller.

The venue for all legal proceedings shall be in Dane County, Wisconsin.
